Happy new year everyone! Hope you all had wonderful holidays and enjoyed all those sweet, favorite holiday goodies to the fullest! Let’s start 2018 off to a healthy, good start. And, why not begin with our teeth?<\/p>\n

Take care of your teeth and they’ll take care of your crunchy, sweet eating habits!<\/p><\/div>\n

The beginning of the year is\u00a0synonymous\u00a0with resolutions.<\/h3>\n

Many of them are unrealistic! However, taking a few extra minutes each day for your oral (and overall) health is doable! Keep your smile healthy, all year long with a few, simple tips:<\/p>\n

Floss Daily.<\/h3>\n

We hate to start the year off with the dreaded “F” word, but it’s truly one of the best things you can do for the health of your gums and teeth. Red, swollen, bleeding gums progress to full-blown periodontal disease. Even if you can brag about how healthy your teeth are and you’re one of the lucky ones who have “never had a cavity”, you can still lose your healthy teeth to gum disease. So, take that extra minute each day to floss! If you have any areas that bleed or cause pain, or if you need a good recommendation for the right type of floss for you, let us know! We are here to help!<\/p>\n

Gum disease leads to bone loss, and bone loss leads to tooth loss.<\/em><\/p>\n

Floss Only The Teeth You Want To Keep!<\/p><\/div>\n

Cut down on soda (pop) and sugar.<\/h3>\n

Inflammation is a popular topic in health articles. There are many studies<\/a> linking sugar intake to not only inflammation and weight gain, but even depression. Dentists know how bad sugar is for the teeth. Sugar loving loving bacteria in the mouth produce acid as a by-product, which breaks down the enamel.<\/p>\n

Pulpitis =\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>inflammation of dental pulp tissue.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Many times, it isn’t until the decay has reached the pulp, or nerve of the tooth, until it gives a warning “Ouch” pain signal. When this happens, the tooth no longer just requires a filling. Most often, it will require a root canal and crown (or worse, an extraction!). So, try to cut back on the sugar and be sure to see us on a regular schedule so we can find those cavities when they’re small!<\/p>\n

Preventative dental care is so important!<\/p><\/div>\n

It’s never too late for a dental check-up, but it’s better to catch potential problems while they’re small. We’ve had patients come in who hadn’t visited a dentist in several years, and we realize it can be a stressful event for many people.
