My tooth to the right of my front teeth needs to be replaced. Originally, I wanted to get a dental implant. However, my dentist said that because I am taking Fosamax that is not possible. I’ve been using a dental flipper, but I really hate it. I’m looking for something more permanent. If I have to get a dental bridge, should I get a regular bridge or an Encore bridge?<\/p>\n

I am glad you wrote. First, I will say that being on Fosamax does not automatically disqualify you from getting a dental implant<\/a>. That being said you do need to be aware of the risks. Dental implant surgery involves going into your jawbone. When you use Fosamax, there is a small chance for complications when you have surgery that involves bone. While the chances of complications are small, when they do happen they are quite serious. That is a very important consideration. <\/p>\n

Some patients get around this risk by temporarily going off of the Fosamax. If you do this, it needs to be coordinated carefully between your dentist and your doctor. Placing dental implants is an advanced procedure even when everything is boringly common. It requires a dentist who has advanced training as well as experience. Your case is anything but boring. It will be even more important your dentist has expertise. It would be best if the dentist could do the surgery as well as the restoration, that way there are no chances for miscommunication. <\/p>\n

As for a dental bridge, that is a good option as well. I would let your dentist choose which bridge to do. While Encore bridges are fine, they do have some limitations in regard to strength. Do the bridge that your dentist is comfortable with, that way you know he or she is skilled with it. <\/p>\n
