While dental bonding is the right repair for this type of damage to a tooth, it is a very advanced cosmetic procedure, which would require a significant amount post-doctoral training to make look beautiful and natural. I don’t know of any pediatric dentists who do a lot of cosmetic work. I’m sure there are some, but most children’s dentists are focused on general dentistry. This is simply because not a lot of children are looking for a smile makeover. <\/p>\n
If the bonding is as bad as you’ve described, I would simply go to your dentist and ask him for a refund. Hopefully, he is compassionate and ethical enough to recognize that this is a disaster for your daughter and will refund your money so it doesn’t cost you even more to get this re-done. <\/p>\n
If he doesn’t, there really isn’t much you can do except to replace it. There is an unfortunate situation where cosmetic dentistry is not a recognized specialty. Any dentist can do cosmetic dentistry regardless of their training. Even worse, the dentist can do an absolute disastrous job and the patient has no recourse. Not liking how the dental work looks, does not entitle patients to a refund. This is why there are so many cosmetic dentistry horror stories. The standard for dental care is functional, not beautiful. <\/p>\n
Because of that, you will want to choose the dentist who does this carefully. The good news is that you are not stuck with a pediatric dentist. You said your daughter was eleven. She’s old enough to see an adult dentist for this procedure. <\/p>\n
When she gets older, meaning that all of her teeth are fully erupted, you can replace it with something a bit more permanent, such as porcelain veneers.<\/p>\n
