I’m a little worried about some missing teeth on my toddler. He’s almost three years old and lost his two front teeth due to nerve damage which happened after a fall. I feel like the teeth need to be replaced so his other teeth won’t shift. I’d suggested a couple of dental flippers. My dentist was quite rude and just said, “Don’t be ridiculous. He’s 2.” and walked out. I looked online for the DIY kits and they’re only for adults. What would you suggest?<\/p>\n

It is a shame your pediatric dentist was so rude. His job is not just to treat your child’s teeth but to make sure you, as the parent, understand everything and are comfortable with the treatment, or in this case non-treatment.<\/p>\n

You should also be allowed to ask as many questions as you need without being made to feel foolish. If this dentist can’t do that, you may be better served with a different dentist who treats children<\/a>. <\/p>\n

When it comes to shifting teeth, in children that is only really a concern if it is a back molar. In that case, a space maintainer would be necessary. Without it, you’d end up with crowding and a need for orthodontics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These are front teeth so you son will be fine. <\/p>\n

Why Tooth Replacements are a Bad Idea for Toddlers<\/h2>\n

First, dental flippers are removable. That alone will make it difficult for a few reasons. A toddler is unlikely to keep it in. It will constantly get lost. Plus, it can be a choking hazard.<\/p>\n

But, what about other replacements that aren’t removable? While they would stay in and they aren’t a choking hazard, it is still not a good idea. Children’s jaws are constantly growing and developing. You’d spend a fortune in constant replacements as he grew. <\/p>\n
