I have a friend from the middle-east who needs to get her teeth replaced desperately. Her dentist is telling her the only thing to do is all-on-4, but I’ve heard that this is not the best option. Is this safe for her? She’s absolutely miserable.<\/p>\n

I am going to suggest you tell your friend to get a second opinion. While the all-on-4 can be useful sometimes, it has its drawbacks. One of the things that concerns me is it was given as her only option. There are always options. All-on-4 is sometimes used for patients who do not have adequate bone support. The biggest downside is that if one part of the unit fails, the entire thing will have to be replaced.<\/p>\n

The ideal solution is to get implant overdentures. This is secure and if one part fails, only that part will need to be replaced. If she is in a situation where there is not enough bone structure then she has another option of having bone grafting done to build that area back up and then having the dental implants placed.<\/p>\n

You did not mention her financial situation. Obviously, the more dental implants<\/a> she gets the better. However, she can get as few as two with a snap in denture<\/a>. I wish I knew where in the middle-east you were talking about. No matter what procedure she picks, she will need a dentist who has invested in post-doctoral training in dental implants. It is an advanced procedure that requires advanced training.<\/p>\n
