5 Ways to Use Toothpaste Off Your Teeth

Posted on March 1, 2014 by Lake County Dental Care.

We all know and love toothpaste. We don’t just mean that as a dental practice. It keeps your mouth clean, there are all types of flavors nowadays and they certainly taste better than the original toothpastes that came out decades ago. But it is a little known fact that toothpaste can do far more than just keep your teeth clean and cavity free. Here are some fascinating, non-dental uses for toothpaste that may just make your life a little better.

1. Remove crayon marks

If you’ve got children, this is definitely a source of frustration. It’s great to see them not glued to the TV, but why do they have to draw on the wall or the furniture? If you find yourself with some crayon on the wall, here’s what you do. Squirt a small dab of non-gel toothpaste on the wall where the mark is. Rub gently with a soft cloth, then rinse with warm water and BAM! You should be good.

2. Defog goggles

The only problem with this secret toothpaste use is that usually you’re already in the pool when you realize the goggles are foggy. But no matter. Coat the inside of swimming goggles with toothpaste, then wipe off and they’ll be crystal clear, guaranteed.

3. Deodorize hands

Can’t get the smell of garlic or onion out of your hands? This can be an issue despite hand sanitizer or soap. So bring on the toothpaste. Wash your hands with just a blob of toothpaste (obviously not a whole handful here) and they should be minty fresh, not tinged with garlic any more.

4. Whiten sneakers

This actually makes a lot of sense. If toothpaste helps whiten your teeth, shouldn’t it be able to do that on other surfaces? Clean rubber soles by rubbing scuff marks with an old toothbrush and non-gel toothpaste. It’s a wonderful quick cleaner.

5. Buff a DVD/CD

This is a HUGE plus that toothpaste brings to the table. DVDs and CDs are notoriously easy to scratch and that leads to skipping or freezing. Get rid of light scratches by squeezing a little non-gel toothpaste onto a cotton ball. Wipe it over the DVD from center out to the edge. Rinse with winter and dry with a non-abrasive, lint-free cloth and you should be good to go.

Amazing isn’t it? And you though it was only good for 2 minutes, twice a day? Well, you were wrong. But check back with us in the future for more lifehacks like this toothpaste-use revelation. Our shortcuts and quick-fixes are guaranteed to change your life.
