You might think that oral health care is a boring subject…and YOU’D BE WRONG! Naturally, we’re a little biased toward the subject, but it’s an area of science that really is quite fascinating—even to a person who isn’t a dentist.
The field of oral health has made some stunning innovations recently. We’re not talking about the really complex, deep science developments like being able to derive stem cells from dental pulp. We’re talking about something as mundane as the everyday toothbrush. Here you’ll witness some incredible advances made by common toothbrush.
Incredible Toothbrush Innovations
- The Environmental Toothbrush: Out with the plastic handles. In with bamboo. Why? Because the creators of the Environmental Toothbrush want dental devices to be 100% biodegradable and sustainable. A pack of 12 is priced at $50, including shipping.
- Plant-Based Compostable Toothbrush: Sticking with being green, a Canadian company World Centric has just introduced a line of compostable toothbrushes to eradicate all the plastic waste coming from its use in traditional toothbrushes.
- Solar-Powered Toothbrush: This sounds like it’s straight out of science fiction. Dubbed the Soladey J3-X, Dr. Gerry Uswak and Kunio Komiyama invented this brilliant piece of dental hardware. It utilizes solar power to kill bacteria and germs in your mouth. Truly incredible.
- Economical Electric Toothbrushes: We know how it is. Those rechargeable, electronic toothbrushes are usually priced a bit higher than others. On the flip side, those reasonably priced ones often don’t come close to the more expensive brushes in function and ergonomics. That’s all changed. 4sight Inc. and Church & Dwight have created the Sonic SpinBrush, a toothbrush comparable to higher-end versions but priced for below $30. It’ll offer basically all the same benefits—in style, function and ergonomics.
- Tongue Powered Toothbrush: This little accessory was conjured up by Adel Elseri and Said Fayad. Their goal was to find a way to clean your teeth in a completely unconventional way. They’ve done it. Get rid of your dirty old toothbrush and throw on this T2T (Tongue 2 Teeth) scrubber on your tongue. It’ll provide you with a far more targeted as well as convenient clean than traditional ways.
