Every year before they leave high school the senior class traditionally comes up with a prank. They range from the predictable “toilet paper the caf”, to the slightly more creative “take up two spots with one car in the parking lot so that anyone who gets there after you has to park really far away”. However, every once in a while a class comes out with something creative, original, and news worth. Here is a short list of the best pranks in recent high school history. (Notice how I am a sucker for the good natured ones.)
The high school in Austin, Minnesota is broken into two buildings, separated by a street but connected with an underground tunnel for when it is too cold to go outside. So the seniors had an idea, ‘what if we could create a continuous loop of students crossing the street’. To do this they would cross the street, then return to the other side by way of the underground tunnel, and then crossing again. They kept the loop going for 15 minutes, creating a huge line of cars and prompting many drivers to turn around. To add a little extra level of frustration, a few of the students dressed up in costume, just so the drivers could be sure that they were in fact seeing the same students cross the street over and over, somehow. Well done, Minnesota.
Students from a small high school in Maryland hired a mariachi band to follow their principal around for a day. The band, complete with the traditional garb and instruments, brought a little piece of Mexico to this high school in this good hearted prank. The principal looks like she enjoyed it, at least she was smiling in the many pictures that got posted to social media. And they really did follow her for the entire day, there are pictures of her all over the school with the band in tow.
This one gets credit for the most effort and organization. The students took it upon themselves to line the main hallway with cups filled with water, all of them perfectly spaced. They even took it a small step further and memorialized their year in red cups. This same prank has come up a few times, but almost never with this scope and size. Kudos to them for putting a lot of time an effort into it. I just wonder who has to clean it all up after it’s over!
For the seniors at this sleepy high school, the last day happened to fall on a Wednesday. So they decided to rent a camel to park on the front lawn. Unfortunately, the camel the rented didn’t talk and wasn’t quite as friendly as the ‘hump day’ camel from the commercials, but he still brought a good mount of personality to the school. If they had wanted to take this prank to the next level, they could have led the camel around the school, but that could have posed its own problems seeing as camels are not house broken.
