Our smile says a lot about us and is generally the first impression given when we meet someone. If you’re not completely comfortable with your smile, you are not alone. According to an American Dental Association survey, about half of all Americans are unhappy with some aspect of their smile.
Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to get the smile you’ve always dreamed of having. These thin wafers of porcelain are bonded directly to your teeth. You can change the size, shape, and color of your teeth in just two appointments.
Porcelain is a glass-like substance that is ideal for this type of makeover. First, it is highly stain resistant, which means you can keep the sparkling white color of your veneers for many years. It is also very hard. In fact, it is stronger than your own tooth enamel. Additionally, the translucency of porcelain helps absorb and reflect light just like your natural teeth do, so your smile will look completely natural.
Porcelain Veneers Procedure
If you want a smile makeover, the first thing you’ll do is sit down with Dr. Potts to discuss your smile design. We have a smile design book you may look through for ideas. We’ll also take a photographic video image to make sure we know what type of smile you want. After you’ve settled on your design and color, we’ll create a wax model. From that model we’ll create a set of temporary veneers for you to try on and see if you like how they look on you. If you are satisfied at that point, we’ll send your order to the laboratory to create a custom set of permanent veneers for you. Once they’re completed, we’ll call you in for your second appointment. We’ll try them in with a temporary paste and give you time to make sure you’re thrilled with the results. If you are, they’ll be permanently bonded to your teeth and you’ll have your dream smile.
