When people think of in-office whitening, it is generally Zoom Whitening that comes to mind. The Zoom Whitening light is touted for its ability to help activate the whitening gel. Unfortunately, the light also dries out your teeth. Dr. Potts prefers to use the Kör Whitening system instead. Your teeth get equally white without any of the side effects.
How Is Kör Whitening Different from Zoom Whitening?
Kör was developed by Dr. Rod Kurthy, who wanted to use chemistry to determine what would make teeth whitening the most effective. During his research he found three factors that can boost the whitening capability of the gel.
- Tri-barrel storage: One of the things he noticed was that when the key ingredients in the bleaching gel are kept in mixed storage, they lose some of their strength. He developed a tri-barrel storage that keeps the ingredients separate until the moment of application, keeping the gel at full strength.
- Unique bleaching trays: In many bleaching systems the gel is diluted when saliva mixes with it. The Kör system has a bleaching tray that helps keep saliva away from the bleaching gel, increasing its potency.
- Refrigeration: To keep the whitening gel from losing strength during its storage and transport, the components in the Kör Whitening system are kept refrigerated from manufacture all the way to application.

These three elements, when used in conjunction with each other, strengthen the teeth whitening process. Even some of the most difficult whitening cases have had success using Kör.
