I do much better with sedation. My last extraction was a breeze. I decided then and there that I wanted sedation for EVERY procedure. But, my dentist said that it is only to be used for certain procedures. I know my friend, who recommended sedation to me in the first place, uses it every time. Is her dentist being irresponsible?

Janna,
Your friend’s dentist isn’t being irresponsible. The types of sedation they use and when they’ll use them is generally left up to the discretion of the dentist. Your friend’s dentist is just more liberal with his use of sedation than yours.
You’ll have to make a decision as to whether you want to stay with this dentist or if the pull for sedation is strong enough that you’ll want to switch dentists.
I know it has changed the way some of my patients with dental anxiety have approached their dental care. They no longer avoid the dentist, but come in regularly for check ups and cleanings. So, I’m all for anything that helps patients.
