Lost my front teeth

My front teeth were knocked out by my husband. He’s been put in jail, but I don’t know what to do about my teeth. Can an emergency dentist take care of this?

Tiana L. – Illinois

Tiana,

I’m very sorry this happened to you. I’m glad you had the fortitude to call the police. You must be a strong woman. An emergency dentist would have a chance at saving your front teeth if you were able to get to them within thirty minutes. After that is become very difficult.

That doesn’t mean your without hope. If it turns out they’ve been out too long to save, there are excellent tooth replacements. Some of which look and function just like your natural teeth.

There is also a program called Give Back a Smile, where dentists volunteer their time to help restore the smile of victims of domestic abuse. After you’ve seen an emergency dentist, if you have any problems, give them a call.

Dentist said I can’t get implants

I can’t wear my dentures anymore because of losing too much jawbone. Now my dentist is telling me I can’t get implants for the same reason. What’s a gal to do?

Genniene H. – Pennsylvania

Genniene,

You’re in a difficult situation, but it’s not impossible. Did your dentist tell you about bone grafting?

A qualified implant dentist can graft in bone to build your jawbone back up. When that is done you could either get new dentures or dental implants. It will be up to you which procedure to do. Though be aware that even if you got new dentures, you would immediately begin losing jawbone again.

The only way to prevent facial collapse is by getting dental implants.
