I need some dental work done and will need to be sedated. The dentist said I’ll need to have someone drive me to and from the appointment. I know it sounds pathetic, but I don’t have anyone who can take me. I’m a single mom. I work in a cubicle and don’t know anyone. I never go out. I don’t even have someone I could call a friend. Will the dentist even know if I just take a bus home?

Darcy,
I’m afraid you won’t be in any condition to take a bus, or even a cab. You will not be coherent. It wouldn’t be safe. In fact, it will be down right dangerous. Because of that, most dentists will be certain they talk to your ride before you leave.
Depending on the procedure, you might just be able to do nitrous oxide and a local injection. With nitrous oxide, you’re able to leave on your own. However, it really depends on the procedure.
If your dentist feels like you really need the stronger, oral conscious sedation, you will need to have someone come with you. Is there a relative or someone from work that can stay with you? If there really isn’t anyone, don’t put off the procedure. That could be life threatening. You could call a local church explaining your situation. I’m sure there’s someone who’d be willing to help.
