The last few weeks I’ve been having nightmares about my dentist. He’s the nicest man in the world, but the last few appointments have been pretty rough. The last one was so bad, I didn’t think I could handle much longer. Now I’m having nightmares and I’m a little too afraid to go to my next appointment. Do you know of anything that can make these appointments less painful?

Lisa Marie,
Your dental fear is not uncommon, especially after a difficult appointment. Your apprehension is probably what is leading to your nightmares….unless of course you subconciously think your dentist is an undiagnosed psychopath.
There is a solution. What you need is an appointment where you don’t feel any pain. See how simple that is? I know, you’re thinking that is impossible, but I promise it isn’t. Ask your dentist if he offers sedation dentistry. If so, you can have a totally pain free appointment.
There are three levels of sedation that are generally available. The lowest level is nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. the second level is oral conscious sedation. This involves taking a pill. The deepest level is IV sedation.
The first level relax you. The second two are so strong that you’re not likely to even remember the appointment.
