I have a serious toothache, but I can’t stand the dentists. No offense. It relaxes me if I smoke a joint before a nervous situation. If the dentist can tell, will he turn me in?

Dear Anonymous,
First, you should be aware that you’re not the only one who feels that way about dentists. So don’t feel bad about that. You should also know that your dentist will likely be able to tell if you smoke marijuana before your appointment.
He or she isn’t likely to turn you in unless they think you’re a danger to someone else. I’d make sure you had someone to drive you to and from the appointment so the emergency dentist isn’t worried about you being behind the wheel. You also should tell the dentist even if they don’t notice.
I have an idea for you that will keep you from feeling like you need to use your current method before goign to the dentist. I’d suggest you go to an emergency dentist that also does sedation dentistry. It will give you a pain free dental appointment.
It’s good that you’re getting this taken care of this situation even though you’re not fond of the dentist. Infections spread. You don’t want this to get worse than it is.
