I don’t like the dentist, but have seen that I have a cavity that needs to be filled. Do store bought fillings work? To be honest I don’t even have a dentist.

Manny,
Store bought fillings are meant to be temporary and are meant just to hold you over until you can see a dentist. However, most of the time they are used for when you’ve had a previous filling that has fallen out. If the cavity has never been dealt with , which it sounds like is your case, putting in a filling won’t solve anything. You’d be trapping the decay underneath.
In order to rid yourself of a cavity, you have to have the decayed areas removed. You need to deal with this as soon as possible so it doesn’t turn into an infection. There are lots of emergency dentists who will see someone who is not a patient, sometimes the same day. I’d try one of them.
