I’m so upset right now and out of options. I had an infection that spread to two molars. I went to an emergency dentist because I’m new to the area and didn’t have a permanent dentist yet. I’ve done this before in moves with great success. I even found my last dentist that way. This one was a disaster.
When I went in about my molars, he suggested I extract them. I was in so much pain at that point, I would have agreed to anything. He extracted them. He said the procedure went fine and sent me home. A couple of days later my nose started making weird noises and feeling like it’s popping. I called the office. They suggested I take a decongestant. I did, but it got worse and I developed a fever. They called in an antibiotic, but it hasn’t helped. I went in and he told me the perforation of the sinus is infected. This is the first I heard anything about a perforation. They told me to keep taking the antibiotic. It’s been two weeks and I’m miserable. I’ve lost all faith in this dentist. What is my best option?

Gabriella,
This has been a disaster, so I understand your hesitancy to trust this emergency dentist further. There are protocols for these situations, starting with informing the patient. Outside of it being the only right thing to do, you needed to be informed to be gentle with the site. Not blow your nose, things like that.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there are bone fragments that need to be removed. I’d like you to see an ENT in an emergency appointment. The first thing they’ll do is get you on the right antibiotic. It sounds like what they have you on isn’t working. That could take care of the problem depending on the severity of the infection and how far it’s progressed. If it’s gone too far, the ENT may need to do surgery to help it heal.
I’m sorry for this experience. I’m glad you’ve had positive experiences in the past.
