Can you advise me? I’m trying to decide between Zoom Whitening and Luster Premium White At Home Tooth Whitening Light System. The at home system seems a lot cheaper and still has a light like Zoom. Do you know if it is safe and effective? There are some positive reviews for it.
Edith
Dear Edith,

There are many teeth whitening options
I am glad you wrote. While there are some decent over-the-counter whitening systems, I would not recommend this one. Everything about it appears misleading. First, their “whitening” ingredient is not actually a teeth whitening ingredient. The so-called super whitener is really just a pigment in one of the ingredients— zinc oxide. This will temporarily “paint” the teeth white, which could account for the positive reviews. They likely used the product and saw the whitening effect from the pigment, then wrote the review not realizing the pigment would wear off.
The light also looks fake as well. I think it is only there for psychological purposes. This makes me question the integrity of the company putting this out.
You could use Zoom Whitening, but I would like to suggest an alternative which I believe will be healthier for your teeth. I’d like you to look at KöR Whitening. This is a strong teeth whitening that you can even do at home, but it will not dry out your teeth the way Zoom can.
Smile Makeovers
Teeth whitening is a fantastic way to improve your smile. If all you are looking to change is the color, that is the way to go. However, if there are other things about your teeth, such as the shape and size, then you may want to consider a complete smile makeover with porcelain veneers.
This can give you that Hollywood smile that celebrities get. I will warn you that it is more expensive, so if you are content with your smile, I’d stick with just getting your teeth whitening. If you do decide on a smile makeover, make sure the dentist offers a beautiful smile guarantee.
